USA Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems come under spotlight

Tranzwatching new bus technology in the USA

The Institute for Transport and Development Policy is one of the foremost organisations fostering bus rapid transit around the world. Recently they investigated the various systems in the USA itself, to try to rank how effective or successful they were.  A recent issue of Metro Magazine, on-line fron the United States carries an article about the systems the ITDP rated the best amongst bus services. For kiwis this article offers a good short intro to BRT in the USA.  Says Walter Hook, ITDP executive director in the Metro article, "These systems are poised to redefine how Americans see and use buses, critical at a time of increasingly scarce transportation funding."
